Demonstration of Stokes Flow

Published by patrick honner on

This is a mind-blowing demonstration of viscosity and Stokes flow from a physics professor at the University of New Mexico:

If you think it’s ludicrous to suggest that you can un-mix a liquid, then watch the entirety of this 2-minute video!

At first i thought after 5 rotations, they just rewind the video, but upon close inspection, I am shame to doubt them. That white fluid is cool, wondering if 5 rotations is the limit for not destroy the original shape too much

You can definitely see a slight difference in the initial and final states of the liquid, so it’s not just a video-editing trick.

I never would have believed that you could un-mix liquids like this. Truly amazing.
