Mobius Battle

Published by patrick honner on

One of many witty, math-y cartoons from www.xkcd.com:

To create this, I think you’d need to draw panels both on the front and the back of a strip of paper, making sure that the end of one side can precede (or follow) the end on the other side in the story.  I imagine it would be best if the circular story had no beginning or end.

i made a few mobius bands at math camp this summer.. it was quite a good time; it’s too bad we all didn’t think to draw pictures on them as well. my topology teacher also showed us a similar concept in which she cut a bagel in “half” – basically it was in two seperate pieces, but she cut it in a way that kept the two pieces from seperating from each other, they somehow still remain interlocked. i am probably explaining this poorly, but do you happen to know what i’m trying to get at?

and on another note, xkcd is a really great site! they update it often enough for it to stay.
